Recombinant Proteins for SARS-CoV-2 Research
SARS-CoV-2 is an enveloped positive-strand RNA virus that consists of four structural proteins: spike (S) protein, envelope (E) protein, membrane (M) protein and nucleoca-psid (N) protein. The E proteins are minor structural proteins and highly variable in different species. The M protein is the main structural protein of the envelope that provides the overall shape and is a type III membrane protein. The spike protein is the most important surface protein of coronavirus, wihch is in turn composed of an S1 and S2 subunit. It mediates the entry of SARS-CoV-2 into human respiratory epithelial cells by interacting with the cell surface receptor angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2).
